Kathmandu, Bagmati Province – In celebration of World Environment Day, diploma engineers, environment and public health experts, government officials, entrepreneurs, and scholars gathered to discuss ideas and share best practices to resolve the existing plastic and related air pollution in Nepal during a program organized by Diploma Engineers’ Association, Nepal, with support from Ministry of Health and Population, and WHO, Country Office for Nepal. Participants also made policy and strategy recommendations, and called for more actions - supported by research - and political commitments to address the problem. WHO will now work with partners to generate more evidence on health impacts of plastic pollution; advocate for use of alternative materials instead of plastics and proper waste management at community level; prohibit burning of plastics; and support the government for effective implementation of related decisions.
