Programme budget 2022-2023
Overview
This Proposed programme budget 2022–2023 incorporates the lessons learned by the Secretariat from its experience in recent health emergencies, as well as the implementation of the programme budget 2020–2021, including shifts already made to respond to the crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
WHO’s commitment to accomplishing its mission – to promote health; keep the world safe; and serve the vulnerable – remains at the core of the Secretariat’s work and of its investments in the immediate and the long term. The COVID-19 pandemic not only reinforced the fact that WHO will need to be prepared for future health emergencies, but it also showed that the Organization cannot completely turn its attention away from its enormous task of helping people of all ages achieve healthy lives and well-being. Meeting this twin requirement will involve continuing to strengthen the performance and resilience of health systems and services in all countries as they work to strengthen health security.
There are four key areas of strategic focus that shape this Proposed programme budget 2022–2023, all of which are mutually reinforcing and clearly demonstrate how WHO is rising to the challenge of accomplishing its overarching mission.
- Rethink preparedness, rediness and bolster response capacities to health emergencies.
- Build resilience by strengthening primary health care -oriented health systems, essential public functions and the health security nexus.
- Get back on track and accelerate progress towards the triple billion targets and those of the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Advance WHO's leadership in science and data.
