Pharmaceutical pricing policy, 2022

Technical Brief: Pharmaceutical pricing Policy, 2022

Overview

Affordable access to safe and quality pharmaceutical products is at the core of achieving universal health coverage. However, governments struggle with high pharmaceutical prices when trying to provide population-wide access to life-saving medical products for people in need, especially for people living with chronic diseases.

Pharmaceutical pricing policies are interventions for managing the prices of pharmaceutical products. The technical brief describes how different pharmaceutical policies work, what factors should be considered in their use, which policies are adopted by the Member States in the South-East Asia region, and key recommendations to achieving affordable and equitable access to quality-assured pharmaceutical products for patients and health systems.
