Dr Hiroki Nakatani

Professor for Global Initiatives at Keio University

Biography

Dr Hiroki Nakatani is presently Professor for Global Initiatives at Keio University. He is also a Specially Appointed Professor at Osaka University. In addition, he plays advisory roles for the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Government of Japan; the National Center for Global Health & Medicine; the International Medical Information Center; and Eisai, Co Ltd.

He served as Assistant Director-General of WHO from March 2007 to May 2015, during which he led the technical cluster comprising HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases. Before joining WHO, he worked at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan. Dr Nakatani received his MD from Keio University School of Medicine, MHPEd from the University of New South Wales, and PhD from Keio University.
