Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge – all editions

 

Geneva 2023

The Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge returns on Sunday, 21 May 2023 to Geneva, Switzerland to provide a healthy kickstart to the Seventy-sixth World Health Assembly. The fourth edition of Walk the Talk coincides with WHO’s 75th anniversary year and provides an opportunity to promote solidarity and to get moving for physical and mental health. WHO is joining with the UN family, Member States, athletes, local sports clubs health partners and the Geneva community to celebrate the importance of healthy lifestyles and demonstrate measures to safely conduct public events.

This in-person event will invite participants to run or walk over two routes: 3 km and 4.2 km. People of all ages and abilities will start at Place des Nations from approximately 8.30am.

Doha 2022

Continuing the legacy of promoting physical activity and health for all, the Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge series was held for the first time in Doha. The event took place on the day before the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ on 19 November 2022 and was organized by WHO and the Ministry of Public Health of Qatar, in partnership with FIFA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy. People worldwide were invited to join the event, in person and remotely, to celebrate the importance of health and well-being.

Geneva 2022

 

The World Health Organization organized the third edition in Geneva of the Walk the Talk: Health For All Challenge on Sunday 22 May 2022, on the morning of the World Health Assembly. This in-person event invited participants to run or walk over two routes: 3 km and 4.2 km. People around the world were invited to take part in the event by tracking their performances through a dedicated app. By registering, participants received a login to take part-in anywhere in the world.

Virtual event 2020

WHO hosted its annual Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge as a virtual event on 16 and 17 May 2020. In light of COVID-19, Walk the Talk was offered not just to our local communities, but to the larger global community and was an opportunity to offer an even more global platform to promote health and well-being for people all over the world. The Virtual Walk the Talk invited people to join in with us from their homes, wherever they are located in the world.

New York 2019

 

Thousands of people took part in the first ever WHO Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge, held 22 September 2019, in Central Park. The event was organized by WHO, the City of New York, and the United Nations. Special guests and speakers included the first lady of New York, Chirlane McCray, the Global Citizen movement, Grammy Award winning musician Ricky Kej, EU Health Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis, among others.

Geneva 2019

 

The World Health Organization joined with partners and the public from Geneva and around the world to stage the second edition of the Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge event on Sunday 19 May 2019 in Geneva. The Geneva edition of the Walk the Talk celebrated the importance of health and recognized the vital role that the city of Geneva plays as a hub for global health. More than 5000 people took part in the event.

Geneva 2018

As part of celebrations of the World Health Organization’s 70th anniversary in 2018, WHO staged a major health promotion event in Geneva, Switzerland, on 20 May 2018, on the eve of the 71st World Health Assembly.

More than 4000 people participated in the free walk/run event, titled Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge. The event was open to people of all ages and abilities and be held over three distances (short 3 kilometres, medium 5 kilometres and long 8 kilometres). These connected routes helped build a bridge between “international” and “local” Geneva and Lac Leman by linking key health, international and touristic landmarks found in the city.
