Dr N. Paranietharan arrived in Indonesia in January 2018,
bringing with him notable achievements in health systems strengthening, health
sector coordination, and technical assistance to governments and development
partners from throughout his career.
Before joining the WHO Indonesia office, Dr Paranie was the WHO
Representative to Bangladesh where he played a vital part in scaling up the
health sector response to the Rohingya refugee crisis. Prior to Bangladesh, he
worked with USAID in Uganda for four years. Dr Paranie joined WHO in the South
Sudan and Somalia offices from 2005 to 2009, after starting his career in the
private sector and NGOs in Asia.
Dr Paranie is a Medical Doctor from the University of Colombo,
Sri Lanka. He has Master of Public Health, specializing in Health Policy and
Financing, and postgraduate studies in Healthcare Leadership and Management
from the Johns Hopkins University, USA. Dr Paranie is a Sri Lankan national.
