Side event on health equity for persons with disabilities at the Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

12 June 2023 13:15 – 14:30 ET
New York,

Over 1.3 billion people – about 16% of the global population – experience significant disability, and this number is continuously increasing. The recently published WHO Global report on health equity for persons with disabilities provides evidence and recommendations for Member States, international organizations, and other relevant stakeholders, including organizations of persons with disabilities, private sector companies, and academia, to achieve health equity for persons with disabilities.

To advance this agenda, the Government of Israel, the Government of Australia, WHO, the Internarional Disability Alliance and the International Disability and Development Consortium are organizing a side event during the  Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The conference is an annual event since 2008, organized by the United Nations to discuss any matter with regard to the implementation of the CRPD in countries.

The objectives of this side event are to:

  • present the findings of the WHO Global report on health equity for persons with disabilities;
  • engage Member States, health sector partners and civil society in dialogue on the entry points to prioritizing and strengthening disability inclusion in national health agendas to address health inequities for persons with disabilities.

This in-person event will take place on 12 June 2023 at 13:15–14:30 EDT in New York, and will be telecast.
