Message from WHO Director General

"Telling stories is as old as human civilization. It helps to inspire, motivate, build empathy, and share problems so we can find and share solutions together. Everything WHO does is about stories because everything we do is about people. We are excited about the quantity and quality of entries in this year’s Health for All Film Festival. Ultimately, we hope the festival is not just a way to tell stories, but to change the arc of people’s stories around the world, towards better health."

Dr. Nathalie-Strub Wourgaft, DNDi

"We needed a way to amplify Dr. Kande’s lifelong dream of developing a better cure for sleeping sickness. That is why the WHO Film Festival was so important. After “A Doctor’s Dream” won the inaugural festival, new doors opened with funders, partners, and supporters. They were touched by this story, opening their minds to the challenges faced by billions affected by neglected tropical diseases."

Richard Curtis - Writer, Director, Co-Founder of Red Nose Day and UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocate

“Being a Juror for the Health For All Film Festival was a deeply satisfying job - so many subjects I knew nothing about suddenly coming to life in the work of some remarkable filmmakers. And the actual judgment day was gripping - really varied and passionate points of view from everyone on the panel. It was a real pleasure and a real privilege.”

Online Awards Ceremony and events

Visuals calendar HAFF

The Health for All Film Festival (HAFF) has its online awards ceremony every year between May and June. It is an opportunity to meet the winners and converse with the film producers, our HAFF jury, and global health experts. This dialogue continues throughout the years with more precise panel discussions recorded and available for health promotion and health education activities.

In-person screenings of some of our winning and selected films have been organized by various WHO Offices and by several of our HAFF institutional partners from a growing network. These events represent additional opportunities for this educational dialogue between filmmakers and health experts, building up our global movement for positive behavior changes through films.

How to create an event in your country?

The Health for All Film Festival is an initiative to connect people joining the movement for health promotion through films. To obtain one or several short films relevant to your future event, you first have to identify the stories in our official selection that are relevant to your planned event on a specific health issue, and/or for a specific in-person audience for raising more awareness. Then, send your request to the HAFF team at [email protected].int for obtaining our contact with the film producers.

Your request should be sent at least three months before your screening event. Thanks for informing us in your message about your planned event, its goal, and its location. Our team will check the agreement with the film producer(s) and could help liaise with a health expert in case you would like to organize a panel discussion after the film screening. If your request can be achieved, you would discuss it directly with the film producers for finalizing a screening agreement. After obtaining it, our team might also help if you need specific linguistic versions of the films (to be obtained under certain conditions).
